What is an Artist in Residence?

An artist residency is a collaboration between a host organization or school and a guest artist. The artist arrives to work in a new environment, sharing skills, knowledge and inspiration with a new group of students. Residencies seek to inspire innovation in the arts and to promote a wider understanding and appreciation of the arts and artists while opening up mentorship and connection. They are an investment in the next generation of emerging artists.

Lead Artist AJA Louden possesses a unique ability to ignite the flames of creativity in students. His artistic expertise and dynamic teaching style can inject fresh life into classrooms, motivating young minds to explore their creative potential.

AJA's roots in street art and graffiti make him exceptionally relatable to many students, bridging the gap between traditional art and contemporary youth culture. By bringing this urban art form into the classroom, schools can make art education more relevant and accessible.

AJA's collaborative approach encourages teamwork and community building among students. When they work together on mural projects under his guidance, students share a transformative experience that fosters a sense of togetherness and accomplishment.

Collaborative murals can become the centre of a lasting artistic legacy within the school and local neighbourhood, a source of pride for students and the broader community. The Artist in Residence programs are flexible and customizable, ensuring they align with the school or organization's unique needs and educational goals.
